Dermatologists recommend starting skin treatments twelve months before the wedding ceremony.

Brides often plan months of beauty work, but dermatologists say a clear schedule can keep skin goals realistic. Starting a year ahead gives the body time to heal and show results before the ceremony.

Year-Ahead Treatments

At the twelve-month mark, specialists suggest tackling the most demanding procedures. Julie Russak, MD recommends collagen-stimulating options such as Ultherapy, Fraxel or Erbium laser resurfacing, stem-cell applications, and even plasma-pen lifts for the eye area.

In the same window, Heidi Waldorf, MD notes that laser resurfacing and chemical peels often need several sessions. The built-in downtime lets color and texture improve gradually, which is why she advises beginning these steps a year before the wedding.

A full-body skin exam should not be overlooked amid planning chaos. Orit Markowitz, MD warns that skin cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for people in their twenties, and incidence climbs with age. Detecting concerns early avoids last-minute emergencies.

If a bride wants a tattoo gone, the clock starts ticking at twelve months. Dr. Markowitz says the only laser capable of delivering noticeable removal within a year is the PICO system, making it essential to book promptly.

Body-contouring and tightening treatments also fit this timeline. Dr. Waldorf explains that most modalities need four to six months to manifest changes, so initiating them a year out provides a safety margin for desired outcomes.

These early steps lay a foundation, but timing also matters for psychological comfort. Starting intensive work well before the big day reduces stress, allowing couples to focus on other wedding details without worrying about skin recovery.

Mid-Year Options

From six months to a year out, filler injections become relevant. Dr. Waldorf suggests a gradual build-up of volume using gel fillers or bio-stimulators, while Dr. Russak feels a six-month start also yields excellent day-of results.

Neurotoxin treatments fit a similar window. Dr. Waldorf advises a first session six months before the ceremony, giving two weeks to view full effects and another month for any needed tweaks before a repeat close to the wedding.

Clear + Brilliant laser sessions are a popular “go-to” for many practices. Dr. Russak recommends a series of five treatments beginning at the six-month mark to smooth tone and boost radiance.

Bio-stimulating procedures such as Sculptra or Sofwave fall into the three-to-six-month period. Dr. Markowitz uses Sculptra for facial volumizing and a non-invasive lift, noting that collagen stimulation continues to improve skin up to six months after the last session.

Laser hair removal also benefits from an early start. Dr. Markowitz points out that hair cycles require multiple visits, so beginning six months ahead ensures most unwanted growth is addressed well before the dress is tried on.

For pigment concerns, a three-month lead time is ideal. Dr. Markowitz employs the PicoWay system to lighten sun spots and melasma on the face, chest, and targeted areas, describing it as painless with limited downtime.

Acne and rosacea can be managed with laser work beginning three months prior, with a final session no later than two weeks before the event, according to Dr. Markowitz.

Dr. Waldorf stresses that a neurotoxin refresh two months before the wedding offers a balance between lasting effect and safety, while Dr. Russak adds that lip enhancements fit into the same window.

One week out, Dr. Markowitz uses a Candela Nd-YAG treatment to boost skin radiance, aiming for a flawless glow on the day.

Final-Stage Touch-Ups

In the days leading up to the ceremony, many brides opt for a light refresh of injectable treatments. A dermatologist typically recommends scheduling the last neurotoxin session early enough to allow any swelling to subside while still preserving a smooth appearance on the day.

Event-Day Facial

Dr. Russak says she has a customized event facial called R+ Glow, which can include “hydration and antioxidant infusion, gentle exfoliation and extractions, dermaplaning, oxygen therapy, LED light, gua sha and more depending on your skin’s needs.”
