Sephora’s London beauty festival debuts, M&S partnership announced

Sephora’s first-ever UK-hosted SEPHORiA London kicked off on 16 October at 180 Studios on The Strand, drawing beauty fans from across Britain and Europe.
Immersive curation and a packed brand lineup
The event features more than 40 brands, ranging from established names such as Tatcha, Haus Labs, Phlur, Laneige and Charlotte Tilbury to up-and-coming labels. Barbé said the programme was deliberately divided into three “neighbourhoods” that let visitors explore hyper-personalisation, Asian beauty trends, next-generation innovation and new beauty-service concepts.
“What I really like about this edition is the curation. But it goes beyond the brands; it’s also about curating trends,” she explained. Attendees can test products, join workshops, watch live performances and share their experiences on social media, turning the festival into a “shareable” moment for the community.
European Sephora Prize highlights fresh talent
At the heart of the festival was the inaugural European Sephora Prize, an incubation competition that attracted 150 applications in four weeks. Ten finalists were shortlisted, and the winners were announced on stage.
Substance of Light, a French brand founded by Clara Nentille in 2021, claimed first place for its photoprotection line that blends high UV defense with skincare benefits and sensorial textures. French Cowboy earned second place by making haute parfumerie more accessible through a collaborative fragrance-creation model, while Belgium’s Omad’s secured third for its natural-origin hair-care range that gently brightens blonde hair at home.
Barbé stressed that the prize is “a very human journey” and that the selected founders are driven by purpose, not profit. Winners receive a three-year acceleration programme for the top brand and one-year support for the runners-up, including mentorship in finance, supply-chain and merchandising, plus exposure across Sephora’s digital and CRM channels.

The retailer’s UK expansion continues apace. Managing Director Sarah Boyd has signaled a goal of operating 20 stores in the UK by the end of 2026.
Barbé highlighted the partnership with Marks & Spencer as a natural extension of this growth strategy. Announced last month, the collaboration will see Sephora open shop-in-shop spaces inside selected M&S outlets and on M&S.com from spring 2027, with an ambition to roll out to 100 locations across the country.
In-store, the brand will provide specialist beauty teams, while the online component will offer an expanded assortment—including skincare, make-up, fragrance, hair-care and body-care—supported by home delivery and Click & Collect through M&S stores nationwide.
Shop-in-shop concept with Marks & Spencer
Design teams are blending the retailer’s visual language with the architecture of each M&S location. Existing fixtures are being retained where possible, while new display units echo the retailer’s signature aesthetics. This approach aims to make the beauty corner feel like a seamless extension of the host store rather than a foreign insertion.
Future outlook and brand evolution
The incubation programme continues to provide founders with holistic guidance. Support spans financial planning, logistics, visual merchandising and direct interaction with Sephora advisors on the shop floor. Winners also benefit from visibility through the retailer’s “The Next Big Thing” initiative, which highlights emerging concepts across digital channels.
Barbé on Future Brand Launches and the Evolving Beauty Market
Looking beyond the UK, Barbé foresees a beauty industry shaped by rapid innovation and a surge of new brands. She believes consumers’ growing investment in skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance creates opportunities for products that blend tangible results with sensorial appeal. She observes that boundaries between beauty categories are increasingly blurred, allowing categories to merge. The result is a market where products deliver performance while making the usage experience pleasurable.
