Cult Beauty disclosed a 1,698% year-over-year surge in searches for Volufiline, a skincare ingredient drawing online attention for its supposed ability to enhance complexion fullness without requiring aesthetic procedures.

The retailer’s internal on-site search data, accurate as of October 8, 2026, also revealed a 2,531% year-over-year spike in searches for “The Ordinary Volufiline”.

Social media platforms have amplified Volufiline’s visibility, where it is promoted as a topical alternative to injectable fillers, with assertions that it can contribute volume to regions like lips, cheeks, and under-eye areas.

The compound was formulated by Sederma, a French cosmetic ingredient firm now under Croda’s ownership. Its key active, sarsasapogenin, originates from the root of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, a botanical utilized in traditional Chinese medicine.

Marketers position Volufiline as a driver for fat cells to accumulate additional lipids, potentially yielding a fuller appearance. Yet, empirical support for such claims in facial skincare applications is scarce.

Discussions referencing the ingredient cite a small, manufacturer-sponsored trial on breast tissue, while rigorous, independent clinical validation demonstrating substantial facial volume enhancement remains absent. Consequently, it should not be marketed as a validated substitute for injectable fillers.

According to Trifonia Spiers, Cult Beauty’s in-house beauty specialist, the ingredient’s attraction stems from the potential to achieve “a little more fullness and bounce without committing to an aesthetic treatment.”

Spiers noted Volufiline distinguishes itself from typical hydrating agents by targeting visible volume, observing heightened demand in products formulated for under-eye regions and lips.

Additional data from Cult Beauty indicates rising interest in other actives. Searches for PDRN climbed by 201.5% year over year, while copper peptides gained 85.4% in searches.

Searches for lip-plumping gloss rose 139.9%, and firming eye cream saw a 172.7% increase.

Spiers advises incorporating Volufiline into a broader skincare regimen, suggesting synergies with components like hyaluronic acid and peptides. She also recommends patch testing new formulations and using daily sun protection.

These metrics reflect user activity on Cult Beauty’s platform, not total market sales, but signal escalating consumer curiosity about skincare actives promising targeted, visible outcomes.
